1. Headlines

The most important action of the SRNWP community was the organisation of the annual EWGLAM/SRNWP meeting (Exeter, 4-7 October), where most of the national SRNWP representatives and Consortia scientists on limited area modelling were participating and contributing to the discussions. The preparations for the EUMETNET roadmap teams had been continued with the involvement of C-SRNWP as well. The SRNWP surface data exchange activities reached its operational status (its details are put under the COSMO webpage) and the extension of the station list (asking the data from Cardington, UK) had been started.

2. Status of programme targets

The main activity of the C-SRNWP programme is the coordination between the five LAM Consortia in Europe (ALADIN, COSMO, HIRLAM, LACE and Met Office). The coordination is ensured by the eight Expert Teams (data assimilation and use of observations; diagnostics, validation and verification; dynamics and lateral boundary coupling; link with applications; physical parameterization: upper air; predictability and EPS; surface and soil processes: model and data assimilation; system aspects) established in 2008 and the regular contacts between the members of the SRNWP Advisory Committee. Beside that, two SRNWP-related programmes (responsible member: Met Office) are ongoing (their reports are prepared independently): SRNWP-I (Interoperability) and SRNWP-V (Verification).

2.1 Expert Team issues

The Expert Teams continued their activities based on their respective workplans (which are available at the srnwp.met.hu webpage of the C-SRNWP programme). All Expert Teams were involved in the organisation and realisation of the scientific programme of the EWGLAM/SRNWP meeting. The "predictability and EPS" Expert Team had discussed the possible use of ECMWF EPS data for the respective LAMEPS systems as initial and lateral boundary conditions. The "surface" Expert Team continued its activity around the SRNWP surface data exchange: its page under the COSMO webSite is ready and the data requests are regularly obtained, The authorisation for the access of data is provided by the C-SRNWP PM and granted uniquely for the SRNWP members. The "data assimilation" Expert Team organised a special session during the annual meeting, which was dealing with the observational requirements of numerical weather prediction. The "verification" Expert Team is concentrating its work around the SRNWP-V programme and the "system" one around the SRNWP-I programme.

2.2 SRNWP Advisory Committee issues

The SRNWP Advisory Committee had its annual meeting in conjunction with the annual EWGLAM/SRNWP workshop. For this meeting also the Expert team chairpersons were invited. The meeting was dealing with general EUMETNET matters as the new EUMETNET structure and the preparations for the EUMETNET roadmap with special emphasis on the forecasting aspects and the involvement of NWP people into the Drafting Team. The Expert Team issues were also discussed (the moist important aspects are referred in the previous chapter).

2.3 Links with the partners

The partners got information about the latest news of the programme through two levels: the Consortia leaders forwarded the relevant information from the Programme Manager through their respective Consortia structure and the C-SRNWP Programme Manager directly informed the SRNWP contact points on the main issues of interests around the programme (mainly about links with the EUMETNET Assembly).

3. Communication and cooperation

The Programme Manager attended several meetings on behalf of the programme, which were as follows:
